In this review, I’ll guide you through my personal experience with their products, highlighting the ways in which they can transform your living space. Let’s discover together the magic that Anthropologie’s home decor has to offer!

What is Anthropologie?

Anthropologie is a retail brand that offers clothing, accessories, home decor, and more. It was founded in 1992 in Wayne, Pennsylvania, by Richard Hayne, Scott Belair, and Gabriel Tham-Morrobel. The brand is part of URBN, an umbrella company that also includes Urban Outfitters, Free People, Terrain, and other consumer-focused retail brands.

The founders of Anthropologie sought to create a space that offered more mature and contemporary styles for women who had outgrown the offerings of Urban Outfitters. They envisioned a store that would provide an immersive shopping experience, with great attention to detail in-store design and product curation.

Anthropologie’s name was inspired by the founders’ fascination with different cultures and the way people live around the world. The brand’s aesthetic draws inspiration from a variety of civilizations, vintage styles, and artistic expressions. The stores are often designed to feel like small, local boutiques, with individualized decor that fosters a personal connection with customers.

The Anthro home decor line is particularly known for its eclectic and unique offerings, reflecting a bohemian and artistic flair that appeals to a wide range of tastes.

Over time, Anthropologie has grown from its original single store to having over 200 locations worldwide. Its commitment to creativity, quality, and individual expression has solidified Anthropologie’s reputation as a beloved and distinctive brand in the retail industry.

By consistently offering unique and trend-setting products that resonate with its target audience, Anthropologie has positioned itself as a go-to destination for women seeking a shopping experience that’s both sophisticated and imaginative.

Whether you’re looking for a one-of-a-kind piece of furniture, a whimsical accessory, or a fresh and modern wardrobe addition, Anthropologie strives to cater to the modern woman’s desire for something beyond the ordinary.

Best-Sellers from Anthropologie Living

While Anthropologie’s best-selling home decor, accents, and furniture items change every year, these items have been very popular among customers and you’ll often see them pop up on your TikTok or Instagram feed.

  1. Accent Chairs and Sofas: Anthropologie’s upholstered furniture often stands out for its unique and bold fabric choices. Items like the Velvet Elowen Chair and the Lyre Chesterfield Sofa have been known to catch customers’ eyes.
  2. Mirrors: Statement mirrors, such as the viral Gleaming Primrose Mirror, have been popular for adding elegance and the illusion of space to a room. I wrote about some tips for styling the primrose mirror and it’s still a popular piece among my readers!
  3. Candles and Diffusers: Anthropologie offers multiple kinds of scented candles and diffusers, including the famous Capri Blue Volcano Candle, known for its signature tropical and citrus fragrance.
  4. Dinnerware: Unique and artistic dinnerware collections like the Old Havana and Nature Table sets offer distinctive style and charm to the dining experience.
  5. Rugs: With a wide variety of styles, Anthropologie’s rugs, like the Hand-Tufted Rosamelle Rug, are popular for their quality and design.
  6. Lighting: Chandeliers and lamps, such as the Magnolia Chandelier, provide not only illumination but also serve as conversation pieces.
  7. Collaborations with Designers and Artists: Limited-edition collections with renowned designers such as Erin Fetherston or artists tend to attract interest and become best-sellers due to their exclusivity and unique designs. Amber Lewis designed a popular collection with Anthro a few years ago.

Anthro Living Home

Anthropologie sells home decor and furniture under its “Anthro Living” home line. The brand has become known for its diverse and eclectic home decor designs, including furniture, bedding, kitchenware, and other home accessories. These products are frequently designed with a boho-chic aesthetic in mind.

I purchased the Gleaming Primrose Vanity Tray from Anthropologie recently. While I love the look of it, it’s not the best quality ever and you can even see in the photo that the gold on the right handle of the tray is already fading to silver.

Nevertheless, I don’t regret my purchase and the price was right for me.

Does Anthropologie have good quality home decor?

Anthropologie is generally recognized for its good quality home decor. The brand has a reputation for offering products that combine aesthetics, creativity, and craftsmanship. That being said, Anthropologie quality is not the very best around.

The brand tends to focus on visual aesthetics and affordable pricing, so the quality is not 100%. Will you pass these pieces on down to your grandchildren? Perhaps, perhaps not. It’s really a toss-up and depends on the product you get!

Is Anthropologie a high end brand?

Anthropologie is often considered a mid-range high-end brand within the realm of accessible luxury. It’s positioned above mainstream retail but below the exclusive luxury market.

Anthropologie’s pricing tends to be higher than many other mainstream retailers. The cost reflects the quality of materials, craftsmanship, and the unique designs they offer. While not in the same category as ultra-luxury brands, the pricing does place it in a higher bracket in comparison to more commonly accessible stores.

Anthropologie frequently collaborates with artists, independent designers, and craftsmen, bringing unique and exclusive pieces to their collections. These limited-edition items and their individualized aesthetic contribute to the brand’s high-end perception.

The in-store experience at Anthropologie is carefully curated, with attention to visual merchandising and a boutique-like atmosphere. This enhances the high-end shopping experience, making it more immersive and personal for customers.

Anthropologie’s target demographic often includes professional women looking for pieces beyond mass-market retail, who are willing to invest in quality pieces for both their wardrobe and home. The brand’s positioning aligns with the expectations of this audience.

While Anthropologie may not be classified as a luxury brand in the same league as brands like Hermès or Chanel, it certainly falls into the category of high-end retail.

Does Anthropologie Ever Have Sales?

Yes, Anthropologie does indeed have sales from time to time, offering opportunities to purchase items at discounted prices! Anthropologie often hosts sales at the end of a season to clear out inventory for new arrivals. This can include both clothing and home decor items.

Special sales during holidays like Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and after-Christmas sales are common times for discounts. These sales may offer a percentage off the entire store or specific categories.

By subscribing to Anthropologie’s email list or following them on social media, you can often receive notifications about upcoming sales and exclusive offers.

Anthropologie Loyalty Program

Does Anthropologie have a loyalty program? Yes! Anthropologie has a FREE loyalty program that you may wish to join if you plan on shopping from the brand. There are a few benefits to joining the free “AnthroPerks” loyalty program.

  • access early product launches and new arrivals first
  • get a $20 welcome gift
  • birthday discount of 20% off during your birthday month
  • access your full order history
  • do receipt-free returns
  • get invited to members-only events

Anthropologie Return Policy

Anthropologie’s return policy is generally customer-friendly, although it is important to note that return policies can vary by country and may be subject to change. Here’s a look at the return policy for Anthropologie in the United States.

Customers typically have 30 days from the delivery date to return items for a refund. Returns made after 30 days may be eligible for merchandise credit in some cases.

Does Anthropologie do price adjustments?

Yes, they do. I bought a piece from Anthropologie that went on sale 10 days later. I was able to contact the Chat support and a woman adjusted my price and refunded the difference to me. The official policy is: A one-time price adjustment will be granted on full-price purchases if an original sales receipt is presented within 14 days of purchase.

The Bottom Line

The bottom line is that Anthropologie makes really fun pieces for the home that you will probably enjoy for a long while, even if they are not heirloom pieces you’ll hand down to your grandkids! Have fun with shopping from Anthrolopolgie, and don’t buy anything out of your price range.
