The Ultimate Guide to Closet Design & Organization

Closets are the place we hide away our things when not in use. They’re typically small spaces that we sometimes take for granted, and really feel the pain when they’re too small! From storing winter coats, to clothing and shoes to linens, to bathroom supplies, there’s an endless amount of possessions we can store in closets.

Keeping an organized closet is a tough task. Making sure it is organized and aesthetically pleasing is an even tougher task! Luckily there are several genius closet organization hacks and ideas you can steal from the web to make sure finding what you need in your closet is as easy as pie! There’s also a host of products that will make even the tiniest closet store as much as possible. Keep reading for our ultimate guide to closet design, organization, and products. These closet essentials will give you a great start.

Closet Design

Let’s go over the different types of closets that most people will consider designing. If you’re working with a small space, you may want to consider a sliding door for your closet in order to save space. Otherwise, most of these closets will have a typical swing-open door.

Bedroom Closet

The bedroom closet will hold all of your clothing, shoes, bags and more if you have the room. If possible, hang as much as possible except for sweaters, which you should always fold to avoid stretching them out. Most closets have one rod across the space with an upper shelf for storage.

Linen Closet

The linen closet is typically found near or inside the bathroom. Inside, you can hold linens, towels, soap, medicine, and other bathroom supplies. Most linen closets are comprised of 4 or more interior shelves.

Walk-in Closets

Lastly, if you are fortunate enough to have a large house, then you may have the space for a walk-in closet. Here you have much more room for designing your closet. You can include a mix of rods, shelves, drawers and more.

Closet Organization

There are many ways to organize your closet and maximize the space inside. Here are a few popular closet organization products and supplies.

Hanging Shelves

This is a great space-saving idea if you really want to maximize the vertical space in your closet but don’t want to install shelves.
