Chandeliers by Style
There are so many different types of chandeliers but these are my favorites:
Crystal
Crystal chandeliers are an elegant and classic addition to any home. They work in feminine homes, Parisian apartments, and even contemporary interiors.
Beaded
Beaded chandeliers are pretty versatile and I’ve seen them in lots of homes from bohemian to farmhouse.
Mid-Century
Mid-century modern chandeliers are coming back in style. These brass geometrical style chandeliers is a favorite of lots of Instagrammers and bloggers.
Farmhouse
Farmhouse style chandeliers are rustic in nature and could feature materials like wood and distressed metals.
French Country
Not far off from the Farmhouse chandelier, French country chandeliers are also rustic by design and feature many of the same materials, but often have more curves in their design – giving them a French twist!
What is the Proper Chandelier Size?
You can put a chandelier in any room of your home – literally! As long as you pay attention to the size, you can fit a chandelier anywhere. Smaller rooms like bathrooms will fit a small chandelier (about one foot wide), whereas a larger space like a living room can handle a chandelier several feet wide.
How High Should a Chandelier Hang?
A chandelier should hang at least 7 feet above the floor in the entryway, living room, or bedroom. That is a general guideline you can use for almost any room. If you’re hanging a chandelier in the dining room however, it should hang about 30 to 34 inches above the dining room table. Chandeliers hung above a kitchen island should hang slightly lower, typically above 28 to 32 inches above the island counter.
If you’re wondering how high to hang a chandelier in a two-story foyer, then that depends on your space. Ideally, the chandelier should hang low enough to be centered in front of a picture window that is visible from the street. If you don’t have a window, then 5 to 7 feet is a general guideline for how low the chandelier should hang.
